Didinga Cultural Dancers entertain guests at the Torit Freedom Square during the Independence Day Celebrations. [Gurtong/ Peter Lokale Nakimangole]The celebrations were held at Torit Freedom Square under the theme “Consolidating Peace and Unity and Enhancing Development for Eastern Equatoria State and the Government of the Republic of South Sudan”
The State Governor Louis Lobong Lojore who was the guest of honour during the celebrations congratulated the people of South Sudan on this special day.
“This is a unique calendar day for us. I ask the people to unite and embrace peace in the state”, he said.Lobong passed President Salva Kiir’s greetings to the people of Eastern Equatoria State, in which he commended them for overwhelmingly voting for secession in the 2011 referendum poll.
Those who attended the celebrations were entertained by traditional dancers from different ethnic communities together with school theatre groups.
