Civil Affairs Officer Svetlana Pencheva said the workshop is aimed at bringing the three of Judiciary, Executive and Legislature together and share on the new things to be achieved by the young independent nation on democratic governance.

She said the same workshop will be simulated to all the counties of the state to help build the capacity of the government officials.

The UNMISS State coordinator said UNMISS has a role to play in building the capacity of the government officials,

“Building the capacity of Western Equatoria State in terms of democracy governance is our top priority. We  will work together in the coming months and years to build the capacity of local government in creating awareness that will be part of UNMISS commitment,” said the UNMISS State Coordinator Ataklti Hailu.

Hailu said that the centralization, wide spread corruption and lack of transparency are hindering good governance in the country.

Governor Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro said that it is important to share information with government on governance as African democracy is different from the western democracy.

“Democracy in Africa could have been slightly different from the West, if we take one side to deal with, it is like creating more problems within democracy,” he said.

The governor added that some people had kingdoms and some of us did not have chiefs but they were democratic those days but today they are all referred to as autocratic.

He urged the participants to disseminate and transfer the information received to their juniors.

Those in attendance include government executive cabinet members, the Judiciary and directors of the various institutions.
