“To Dr. John Garang who said, let there be Red Army and there was Red Army, to President Salva Kiir who supported the foundation,” Chairman-Elect Bol said at the start of his speech, “To my opponent, it was not a contest to win or lose but the level of commitment. Comrade Madut did not lose this race simply because he is not competent but because he did not mobilize enough. We just mobilized more people to get us more votes. If Madut is given another chance, he can do better than me tomorrow.”

Madut Maduot conceded defeat after the results was announced and he said losing the election will make him a stronger Red Army member and will work together with the chairman.

The Red Army has slogan that whatsoever the situation, never quit and Madut ended his speech by reiterating his firm commitment to the foundation values inviting a huge applaud from the voters.

“I will never quit in or out, am a Red Army,” said Madut.

The Chairman Electoral Committee, Peter Reath announced the results after the candidates were advised to be calm.

Deng Ayok Kuel was elected deputy chairperson with Ter Tongyik Majok being elected as Secretary-General for the foundation.

On Saturday, all the candidates were involved in a debate to showcase their manifestos and the election was basically based on the performance of the candidates.

The foundation has 700 registered members.

For the last six months, the Red Army Foundation has been governed by 16 members drawn from the previous organizing committees.

The foundation constitution stipulates elections to be held within six months of registration to elect a permanent board to run the foundation and their term of office will be two years.
