She welcomed the recent fruitful summit between President Salva Kiir and Omar Al Bashir in Khartoum and urged them to commit to supporting the full implementation of the deal.

“The Chairperson of the Commission welcomes the commitment by the two presidents to continue their engagement on all outstanding issues, particularly those relating to Abyei,” Dlamini said in a press statement.

“The Chairperson urges all stakeholders and the citizens of both countries to continue to support their leaders in their efforts to address the outstanding challenges.”

She also commended the two presidents for their activation of the two committees created to oversee the implementation of the 27 September 2012 CA.

On Tuesday, Kiir led a high level delegation to meet his counterpart Omar Bashir following an earlier invitation by the former.  The duo agreed and committed themselves to the full implementation of the CA without any interruption.

President Bashir lifted his order announced in June to halt South Sudan’s oil flow through his country on allegations that Juba supports rebels fighting his government in Southern Kordofan and Blue Nile States. Juba has repeatedly rubbished the allegation.

Signed in September last year by the two Presidents; Kiir and Bashir, the Cooperation Agreement backed by the AU and the UN, has remained challenge to implement due to the bitter relations between the two countries.

Analysts have called for more international pressure on the two leaders to fully implement the deal.
