The body of the suspect has been kept in a coffin since 2011 at Pageri Police Post, Magwi County in Eastern Equatoria state, Radio Emmanuel has reported.

It is reported that an officer at the Pageri outpost, Sergeant Major Obuu Richard told the press that the late Lagu Patrick was first arrested on allegation of kidnapping a three-year-old baby girl when three weeks later he held a girl hostage at his home and during detention, he hit a police officer and attempted to escape but died in the bush.

The body of the late was found in January 2011 but the relatives have since refused it for burial, demanding police who held him to account for his death before burial.

Ben Kator, resides in Juba, is among the relatives of the dead suspect and equally rejects burying the body as he wants Pageri police to take full responsibility of late Patrick’s death.

The Pageri police defended as it filed the case on January 3, 2011 against the dead person on escape from police custody.

Pageri Boma Chief Mawa Patrick has launched an appeal to both police and relatives come together to speed up the process of removing the coffin of the suspect for burial.

It appears the state Government is excluded from the ritual though prefers action be taken to bury the dead body so other judicial procedures could take the course.

Efforts to reach close relatives by Gurtong turned fruitless.
