The fair was organized in collaboration with the State Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries and all Food Security and Livelihood (FSL) development partners according to the Master of Ceremonies Mark Wani.

At the launch, the state leaders joined by state partners and stakeholders emphasized appeals to state residents to cultivate so as to enable the state fight the looming hunger in the region.

The Acting Director General, Mrs. Anne Itwari Felix who appealed to the state citizens to be committed with state partners, said great efforts have been exerted towards a success full Agriculture Day.

“Let us all take this great opportunity to honour the Government, Development partners and organized farming communities in the state for their great contribution to fighting hunger and poverty in the state. And we would like to appreciate all the line Ministries and key stakeholders in the sector and encouraged them to progress positively,” he said.

The show included all the 8 counties, organized farming groups, private sector and development partners and it will be on for three days.

“We expect positive interactions and experience sharing both success and failures. The show ground will raise awareness of agro-ecological zone farming for improved production and productivity,” said Itwari.

“I would like to take this time on behalf of participating partners to join you in the spirit in this historic Second Annual Agricultural Trade Fair,” said the FARM Coordinator who spoke on behalf of all the state development partners.

The Coordinator urged the state citizens to use learned technology take it seriously with commitment to fight hunger in the region.

Torit Municipality’s Mayor Stephen Osfaldo Loboli also encouraged all to take hoes to cultivate more crops to fight the hunger in the region.

The State Animal Resources and Fisheries Minister, Patrick Lodinga Kotein likened called for joint efforts to be mobilized against the looming hunger in the region, saying effort is not limited to government Institutions but all development partners and the citizens. 

The State Agriculture, Forestry, Irrigation, Cooperatives and Rural Development Minister John Ochan Bongomin explained the purpose of the second Annual Agriculture Show saying it is held to enhance farmers/stakeholders understanding and adoption of diversified farming practices to increase agricultural and livestock productivity and production for rural socio-economic growth as well as contributing to the State and National economic development.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture and on my own behalf, I am privileged to extend my sincere greetings to all of you as we have gathered here to witness today’s function. I would like to sincerely honor H.E Louis Lobong Lojore, Governor EES and all the guests present for sparing some of their valuable time to come and participate in this occasion which we believe will encourage the actors in agriculture to exert more efforts towards achieving food security and better livelihoods in the State,” he said.

“And in special way, I’m grateful to the Local and International NGOs for their generous contributions towards the successful launch of this event. 

“We are in a special way grateful to; FARM Project for supporting the training offered to the Steering and Sub-Committee on how to conduct a successful Agriculture Show and providing some visibility materials, Caritas Switzerland/Luxembourg for printing T-Shirts and also providing other visibility materials and South Sudan Red Cross for supporting the show ground preparation team with the work force during cleaning of the show ground and are now on emergency preparedness to take care of the participants with First Aid during this function,” he added.

He also hailed the contribution of the private sector and the Minister and staff of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure for paving the roads leading to and within the Show ground.

The Minister explained that the 2nd Annual Agriculture Show in Eastern Equatoria State has been planned as a result of the recommendations drawn after the review meeting of the 1st Annual Agriculture Show, where all actors agreed that the Agriculture Show should be an annual event in this State. This 2nd Annual Agriculture Show has been planned to run from 25th -27th Oct, 2013.

The function’s guest speaker Louis Lobong Lojore, the state Governor congratulated the participants applauded the committed farmers and their groups for the great contributions leading to the success of the show.
