Akol said he comes to step-up consensus in the fledgling nation and expressed grateful to the President, Salva Kiir for the pardon granted last month as his return is a response to Kiir’s pardon granted last month to him and other several militia leaders.

“Of course I have been away for a very long time. There have been many impediments, hurdles, constrains that led to that but this is not the time to talk about it. What is important is that this epitome is now behind us,” Dr. Lam, Chairperson of the South Sudan leading Opposition party, SPLM-DC told press at the Juba International Airport up on his arrival.

He was warmly received by his party members and supporters. He was also accorded VIP security and guards.

He calls for the unity of the people of South Sudan and collective work-together to build the nation.

“I call for all the south Sudanese to be working together for the consensus building we are talking about,” Lam said.

Kiir’s pardon to Lam and others which came just a month after sacking his entire cabinet is aimed at harmonizing his icy political relations with the Opposition in the country ahead of the country’s anticipated 2015 national elections.

Lam was Kiir’s competitor during the Sudan’s 2010 presidential race.
