Chief Dhor Ariik Mawien left Juba for Wau town after coming from New Delhi in India where he had the medication. The Chief experienced severe health conditions for the last two years which had let him made him seek medical attention abroad.

The Chief’s son, who is also an MP in the National Legislative Assembly Hon. Cornelio Mawien Dhor, held a welcome ceremony for his father at his residence in Juba, Thongpiny area.

“My dad has been ill for quite a long time. However, recently his health difficulties were defeated by medical doctors,” he said.

“Since last year, I have been taking the old man to Nairobi to settle his health difficulties which include diabetes, difficulties in passing urine and many more complications. But of recent, I took him to New Delhi in India where he went under two successful medical operations..”

While addressing the gathering at the same ceremony, Madut Kuendit applauded Chief Dhor for his wise leadership in ensuring the Greater Tonj and Bahr el Ghazal at large are united.

“This is a man who has kept us united for these long yours of struggle. He has led us with his pure heart and that is why he became the head of the entire Dinka Bahr el Ghazal Paramount Chief,” Kuendit said of the paramount chief.

“His leadership cannot be scorned and he became a greater man among his people. We ask God to keep him among us so that we learn from him.”

Dhor despite being a traditional leader was known within the SPLM/A leadership during the struggle and was used to solve disputes across the Greater Dinka area using his wisdom and experience.

The Chief was known to Dr. John Garang, Salva Kiir, Dr. Riek Machar and other leaders in the liberation struggle.

During the 1997 Wunlit Peace Accord for South Sudanese tribes especially the Nuer and Dinka, Chief Dhor is said to have played a positive role. According to Anthony Agiem Tong, Chief Dhor Ariik is the longest serving chief in Sub-Saharan Africa after being there for 43 years.

The Paramount Chief Nyal Chan Nyal of Gogrial region also congratulated the chief and urged him to remain faithful to the instructions and advice of the medical doctors.

Dhor hails from Lou Ariik area in Tonj North County in Warrap State and is a son to the former Chief appointed by the British during the colonial period in the Sudan. In Lou Ariik he has set an age set generation called Machar-Anyar and now considered by this youth population in the location as their father.
