Hon. Makuei was briefing the SPLA leadership on the on-goingpeace talks in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and their role in the conflict. Makuei pointed out that the army is an important component in the attainment of peace and stability, the security ministry will be briefed regularly on the issues pertaining to security arrangements in the talks.

He however assured the SPLA leadership that the government remained committed to bringing about a peaceful resolution to the current conflict in the country, as directed by the president of the Republic, despite the Continuous violation to the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement signed earlier in Addis by the rebels.

The Minister for Defense and Veteran Affairs, Gen. Kuol Manyang Juuk, on the other hand, describe the government negotiation team as competent, pointing out that the delegation had been entrusted by the people and they expect positive outcome from the peace talks. Kuol also outlined the important of accountability for those who have taken up arms against the nation.

The meeting discussed at length the issues related to integration of rebels into the army rank and the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (CoHA).

The Government delegation, headed by Nhial Deng Nhial, is expected to return to Addis this week as part of the implementation of the 45 days deadline by IGAD for the parties to reach a solution to the current conflict in the Country.
