Authorities in Upper Nile State said 10 people have died and 7 otherssustained injuries in the bombing of Wednesday by a suspected Sudan Air Forces (SAF) in Maban County.

Maban County Commissioner Mr. Timothy Ngewe said that the Antenov came at around 4 pm on Wednesday from the direction of the Sudan.

“We did not know the number of bombs dropped but we just learned there was bombing in our territory. The bombs were dropped in Kortumbak,” he said.

“We have seven 7 dead in Maban, 3 in Blue Nile, making a total of 10 of those who lost their lives,” he said

The commissioner further added that 7 people sustained injuries with 4 having serious wounds. He added that the seven people who are injured are under medical care at Bunj Hospital.  He called upon the government to look into the issue and take serious steps toward such incidents.

Upper Nile State Information Minister, Hon. Peter Hoth Tuach, confirmed the incidence. “I receive in the morning a phone call and I was told that the injured are still in the hospital on medication.”

“Base on the reports we are getting, the information indicates that the plane came from the direction of the Republic of Sudan, suspecting that the SPLA North where in that particular area. That is the information from the SPLA on the ground,” he said.

Hoth told Gurtong it is unnecessary for the Sudan government to bomb South Sudan because, as you will recall, the President of the Republic of South Sudan and President Omar Hassen Al Bahsir of Sudan met recently and their meeting was for cordial relations between the two countries.

SPLA Spokesperson Col. Philip Aguer Panyang said an Antenov had launched a bomb attack on Maban County’s Kortumbak area on Wednesday about 3pm and that  “It is only Sudan which is using Antonov in the region. There is no doubt about that.”
