However, earlier on, a Warrap Cabinet Minister had suggested that there was a need to station a division somewhere in the areas of Jur Man-anger (Mayen-Jur Boma or Aru). That, according to him, would protect the entire Warrap state, including Greater Gogrial and Greater Tonj Districts.

Warrap’s Greater Tonj Region has been broken apart by communities fighting amongst themselves thevillages and cattle camps. Some attacks have been coming from the neighbouring Unity State and thousands head of cattle have been stolen while dozens of people were killed and many more displaced.

The Conference’s resolutions have empowered commissioners to arrest any individual who is providing protection to thief or murderer within their jurisdiction. The conference also urged the county commissionersto have a joint collaboration mechanism to coordinate, monitor and resolve emerging security challenges of the elopement of girls, theft and murders
within their counties.

To prevent internal killings and inter-communal conflicts using firearms the three Tonj county commissioners are asked to register all youth with firearms in their counties.

“All illicit firearms are o be collected during rainy season and stored in Payam  Armories;   guns   can   only   be   returned   to   youth during   time   of   security threats,  especially  during  the dry season  or  when  insecurity  emergency  occurs,” The document says.

Last month clashes in Pan-miir of Ajakleer in Tonj North County affected citizens from the three counties of the former Tonj District, bringing fear of a bigger security collapse and a major threat to Warrap State government.
That conflict reportedly killed 12 people and many more were wounded in the cattle camp in a night attack carried out by Tonj East youths.

A number of fatal disputes had been on-going since last year among Thiik and Leer Communities, taking lives of citizens from both sides.

Another serious dispute had in September killed over 40 people, including the area chief and hundred moreinjured in Luanyjang area between Wun-Thuc and Wun-Adel sub-clans.
