Eastern Equatoria State Government has launched initiative seeking available alternatives aimed at achieving socio-economic growth by empowering young men and women to actively get engaged in agricultural production.

Yesterday, the state government through its ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and RuralDevelopment commenced a third agriculture trade fair, convened at Torit Freedom Square. 

The show which is expected to conclude tomorrow, Saturday, basically aims at encouraginglocal farmers and others to join and increase agriculture production. 

The state acting minister of Agriculture, Dr. Margaret Itto Leonardo told the gathering during the lunch that the state has prioritized ways to improve production in the region in efforts to minimise the on-going hunger. 

She appealed to the Country’s youth to join the  fight against hunger by getting involved in crops’ cultivation.

The state governor Louis Lobong Lojore strongly appealed to the state citizens to willingly join the sector for more production of crops.

He told them to make use of Fridays and Saturdays which his administration annually grantsto civil servants purposely for cultivation. 

A section of farmers sang a song, which echoed that wealth lies in the soil, meaning everyone must dig up the rich soil in order to explore richness through agriculture exploration. 

All the eight Counties in the state are currently showcasing their agricultural produce and products at the show after being launched on Thursday in Torit, thereafter will witness county competitions for positions of first, second, third, fourth and so forth and this shall be announced after be he has been ranked accordingly by adjudicators.

Among the stakeholders participating include Red Cross, FAO, Caritas.

The theme for the trade fair: ‘Farming As A Business For Sustainable Livelihoods Socio-economic Empowerment In the State’.
