Community Empowerment for Progress Organization consider the act of pardoning as not easy following the experiences of the violence that the country have witnessed since Mid-December, 2013 till today. The critical issue with the current situation in South Sudan in accordance with Mid-December, 2013 violence is demand for justice and accountability for the committed human atrocities and crime against peace. Compromising with the quest for justice and accountability through pardoning suspects is risk for the society coming together. Pardoning tactics should not be use for forgiving suspect that requires to be proven in the competent court of law as innocent for allegations of human atrocities and crime against peace.
Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO said that it is unfortunate situation that people are compromising with justice and accountability for the sake of interest for public office power. The culture of impunity should be abolished because it allows cycle of violence to repeat itself.
In strong terms, CEPO is urging the political leadership of the country not to compromise with justice and accountability. Making justice and accountability prevail within the society is a strong factor for holding the society united and accommodating
