Government resolves to meet Uganda over Bakulu Coach rampant accidents

Juba 28th Feb.2015. Acting Government Spokesperson Rebecca Joshua Okwaci told the press that the cabinet has formed a joint committee comprises of Roads and Transport, Interior, Justice Ministries and other institutions tasked to establish information about Bakulu Coach rampant fatal accidents for immediate solution.

Community Empowerment for Progress Organization welcomes the move by the government of South Sudan for the safety of public travelling o Kampala-Juba road using Bakulu Coach. CEPO thanks the government in responding to the public outcry on the issue of Bakulu Coach

Mr. Edmund Yakani, Executive Director of CEPO said, Bakulu Coach rampant fatal accidents on Kampala-Juba is a grave mistake that should be taken to competent court of law without any fear or favor. Bakulu Coach deserves to be stop and abolish in facilitating public transport services on Kampala-Juba road without any excuses. The rate of the Bakulu Coach Accident witnessed recently demonstrates that either the company is poorly managed or something is wrong with the company in terms of ensuring responsible drivers are ensured for driving the buses

In strong terms, CEPO is calling for the governments of the two countries South Sudan Uganda to make their investigation urgently and declare publically their findings and resolutions for addressing the Bakulu Coach.

CEPO call upon the government of South Sudan to stand strongly for the abolition of Bakulu Coach Services on Juba-Kampala road once the findings are more centered on mismanagement and poor leadership within Bakulu Coach Company

Any delay in addressing the issue of Bakulu Coach timely, CEPO is ready to sue Bakulu Coach to competent court of law in South Sudan. Under the South Sudan Transitional Constitution, 2011 article 20 “The right to litigation shall be guaranteed for all persons; no person shall be denied the right to resort to courts of law to redress grievances whether against government or any individual or organization”. Therefore, Bakulu Coach should be suspect and its issue should be resolved urgently
