At least 30 grass thatched local houses were burnt down in Abyei and four children abducted by attackers believed to be from the messeriya community in Marualachak Eastern Abyei last Sunday.

ABYEI, 5 March 2015 [Gurtong] – John Ajang Kiir, the Assistant Secretary-General in the government-supported local administration, told Gurtong in an interview on Wednesday that 8 of the messirya attackers were capture after clashing with the United Nations Interim Security Force in Abyei (UNISFA) in Marualachak area.

Ajang said four people were reportedly killed and three others wounded after the Arab Messeriya attacked Eastern Abyei an area for the Dinka Ngok chiefdom. 

The Assistant Secretary General accused the Sudan army to be behind the attack.

“The attackers are the Sudan armed forces and not armed Messeriya because messeriya could not have military Communication equipment and Motorolas.”

The head of the Ngok Dinka chiefdoms, Sultan Belbek Deng Kuol, confirmed that at least five people were killed in the attack including a 72 year old man.

"An old man of 72 years who was missing was found dead on Tuesday and four children are now missing"

However, according to the UN peacekeeping force in Abyei (UNISFA) armed messeriya killed four people wounded three others and eight children are missing.
