ABYEI, 28 July 2015[Gurtong]-Dr. Ayom Kurchek Ayom said that the remaining malaria medicines available will by the end of July run out of supply.

He says the number of internally displaced persons coming to Abyei from neighbouring States is overwhelming and has exceeded the supply of drugs by the national government to the region.

“We received medicines from Juba for Abyei people but the region has accommodated many IDPS from neighboring State where the population has become more than the medicines being supplied.”

“Right now we may have some medicines but the kind of Malaria medicines that we have now are tablets and malaria has injection types of medicine, so we don’t  have that” he said.

There are two main hospitals in Abyei, one is located in the town of Abyei and the other in Agok Rumamer County South of Kiir Adem River.

Even with lack of enough malaria drugs, Dr. Ayom Kurchek said that compared to last year, malaria cases have decreased as last year recorded malaria cases at 50,000 cases within a period of just six month.
