JUBA, 18 August, 2015 [Gurtong] – South Sudan has called on IGAD partner states to show support towards the attainment of peace in the country.

South Sudan Foreign Affairs Minister Dr Barnaba Marial Benjamin told reporters last week that he had met regional leaders and deliberated on the South Sudan issue during the Eastern African Pan African Congress held in Nairobi, Kenya last Thursday.

He said he clearly stated South Sudan’s stand on the Compromised Peace Agreement being undertaken by IGAD in Addis Ababa.

“We stated our position and concerns during my meetings with leaders from the region. We affirmed our commitment to bringing the conflict to an end”, he said.

Dr Marial said he met his counterparts from Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia as well as the IGAD Chief Negotiator Seyoum Mesfin, where it was agreed that South Sudan’s position in the peace process will be supported.

“Although there was no major resolution, the overriding resolve was that the IGAD member states must help the IGAD-led  peace process in order to attain peace in South Sudan” ,said the minister.
