The Western Bahr el Ghazal State Governor Rizik Zackaria Hassan has urged the state residents to remain calm until the final results of the Southern Sudan are announced by the Southern Sudan Referendum Commission.

Speaking today at the State SPLM Secretariat Governor Hassan urged the youth to be patient as vote tallying progresses.

“Let me make it clear that there will be no celebrations until the full announcement is made by the Southern Sudan Referendum Commission as said yesterday by the Government of Southern Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit”, he said.

He commended the state residents for voting in their numbers, saying it has showed their full support to the SPLM.

“We are now assured that our people are behind us and I would like to assure every South Sudanese that the South Sudanese government is fully committed to the people”, said Governor Hassan.

As the polling concluded on Saturday, January 15, jubilant residents of the state capital Wau went into celebrations, having been informed that 83 percent of the voters had cast their votes.

Draped in South Sudan flags, the residents atop cars and motorcycles, honked in the streets of the town celebrating the secession of South Sudan.

Governor Hassan was accompanied to the secretariat by the State Minister for Legal Affairs Peter Miskin and the County Commissioners of Jur River and Wau, Wol Dhel Theip and Luka Anthony Ubur respectively.
