In efforts to boost peace in the soon-to-be Africa’s newest state, an inter-state peace conference was held on February 7-8 in Wunlit County of Lakes State.

The 2- day community peace consultation meeting between Warrap and Lakes states was held in a bid to resolve the incessant cases of cattle rustling between the bordering counties of the neighbouring states.

The meeting was attended by 380 chiefs from Tonj East and Tonj South counties in Warrap State and Rumbek Central, Rumbek North and Cueibet counties in Lakes State.

The Rumbek Central County Commissioner Matur Majok Magol said the rampant cattle rustling in the neighbouring counties had greatly contributed to insecurity, hence slowing down development.

This is not the first meeting between the two states in efforts to find lasting solution to cattle rustling.

In March 2010, a community peace conference was convened by PACT-Sudan to reconcile the Luac-jang of Tonj East County of Warrap and the Pakam community of Rumbek North County of Lakes State.
