Humanitarian Coordinator for South Sudan, Eugene Owusu, today paid a visit to Wau to assess the humanitarian situation in the State.

WAU, 30 June 2016 [Gurtong] – Speaking to the media after his briefing with the Acting State Governor, Angelina Anthony Ubur, Owusu said he has been accompanied by a delegation comprising the UN heads of agencies, NGOs and donors to assess the level of humanitarian situation in Wau town to scale up emergency needed.

“We have come as a humanitarian team to essentially assess the overall situation here in Wau following the unfortunate violence that erupted over last weekend, specifically we are here to see how the humanitarian response is going on. There are large numbers of people who have been displaced,” he said.

Owusu said that the team has put together a comprehensive program of support for the affected population, but particularly also to see how we can scale up this response to really reduce suffering in this very critical period,” he said.

The State Acting Governor, Angelina Anthony Ubur welcomed the visit and assured the agencies of free movement to the affected areas in the town.

Raga was last week attacked by a group of people who have not yet come out clearly to state their mission. Many have been displaced and several others killed during the unfortunate attack.
