The Governor of Jonglei State is calling on the entire residents of the state not to leave the region due to fear as fighting continue in other parts of the country since fighting broke out at the presidential palace [J1] on 08th July 2016.

Bor, 5 August 2016 [Gurtong] – Col. Philip Aguer Panyang said that the security situation is normal in his state, despites conflict in Juba and other parts of Equartoria region.

“The security situation is quite and normal in Jonglei state and there is no reason for people to be panic”, he said

The Governor made the statement to the media last Wednesday at his office after reports from the ground that people were running to the nearby IDPs camp, especially to Mingkaman camp across the Nile in Awerial Country, due to fears that fighting will spread to the state again and the rebel forces will attack Bor soon, the state capital of Jonglei.

“There is no need for us to fear because our forces are ready to defend civilians”, Aguer stated

He assured that there are no SPLA-IO forces in Jonglei state, adding that the SPLA-IG forces are ready to protect the civil population.
 
Col Aguer appealed to everybody who is residing in Bor town not to leave the city. He encouraged the people of Jonglei State to continue running their daily activities normally as government will provide security.

“In case of danger”, he said, “I the governor will be the first person to announce it to you”.

Concerning rumours that Juba – Bor road is insecure, the governor assured the population that the road is secure for transportation of goods and passengers.
