Charges have been filed against a suspect in the fatal shooting of one woman and wounding of another at 3901 Dalmatian, and the wounding of a man at 14603 Littlefield about  2 p.m. on Sunday (July 21).

The suspect, John Richard Smith (b/m, DOB: 6-19-75), is charged with murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 263rd State District Court.  He is accused in the killing of Christine Cousins, 27, and the wounding of Seketha Jacobs, 23. and Ned Johnson, 50.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Elsbury and Senior Police Officer R. Martinez reported:

Ms. Cousins was fatally shot by Smith at 3910 Dalmatian, where Smith also shot Ms. Jacobs prior to leaving the scene.  Jacobs was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where she is expected to survive her wound.  Smith then shot Mr. Johnson at 14603 Littlefield.  Johnson was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he is expected to survive his wound.

Smith was captured by patrol officers, who were flagged down by citizens.  The suspect was arrested in possession of a firearm of the same caliber used at the murder and aggravated assault scenes.  Ballistic analysis will confirm if this is the weapon used in the offenses.
