Houston police are investigating an incident in which an armed suspect fled the scene after he was wounded by a Houston police officer in the 1300 block of West Donovan about 5:30 p.m. on Monday (Sept. 20).

The suspect, described only as a black male in his 30s, is believed to have suffered a gunshot wound and is still at large.

Officer E. V. Athmejvar, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in the incident. Officer Athmejvar, assigned to the North Patrol Division, was sworn in as an officer in January 2010.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Torres and Senior Police Officer J. Johnston reported:

A female, 26, was driving her vehicle in the 1300 block of West Donovan when an unknown male suspect, also driving on West Donovan, turned and stopped his car, blocking the street. The suspect got out of his vehicle, approached the female and pointed a pistol at her. The female then fled the scene and called 9-1-1. Patrol officers responded and, as they spoke to the female about the incident, the suspect returned to the scene in his vehicle. Officers ordered the suspect to stop. However, the suspect ignored the officers and attempted to run over Officer Athmejvar as he fled the scene. Fearing for his safety and that of his fellow officers, Officer Athmejvar discharged his duty weapon several times and struck the suspect and his vehicle. The suspect hit a parked car and then fled on foot.
