Charges have been filed against a suspect wounded by a Houston police officer at 4000 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 11:50 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 29).

The suspect, Ricardo Salazar-Limon (H/m, DOB: 10-6-85), is charged with resisting arrest and DWI in Harris County Criminal Court #5.

Officer C.C. Thompson, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in the incident. Officer Thompson, assigned to the South Central Patrol Division, was sworn in as an officer in January 2007.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant D. Giannavola and Officer T. Andrade reported:

Officer Thompson was running radar on the Southwest Freeway southbound near Kirby when he observed a vehicle speeding and initiated a traffic stop in the southbound lanes of the 4000 block of the Southwest Freeway.

The officer observed four males inside the vehicle and noted a strong odor of alcohol. The officer asked the driver, Salazar-Limon, to exit the vehicle. As the officer was attempting to arrest Salazar-Limon for suspected DWI, the suspect began struggling with the officer and attempted to push the officer into moving traffic and over the guardrail of the freeway overpass. The suspect then began walking toward his vehicle while placing his hands near his waistband, making it appear he was reaching for a weapon. The officer, fearing for his safety, discharged his duty weapon one time, striking the suspect. Salazar-Limon was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in stable condition.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
