Fatal traffic accident at 5200 Southwest Freeway claims a pedestrian man’s life

Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in the 5200 block of the Southwest Freeway (South U. S. Highway 59) about 11:15 a.m. Sunday (September 7).

The identity of the male victim, 59, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Harris and Officer I. Jefferson reported:

The victim attempted to cross the northbound lanes of the freeway when he was struck by a green Honda Passport.  The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the Honda remained at the scene.  He did not show any signs of intoxication and was questioned and released with no charges filed.

The investigation is continuing.
