Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 4680 Beechnut about 12:15 a.m. last Thursday (Nov. 11).

The suspect, Anthony Ray Ferrell (b/m, DOB: 11-19-70), is charged with capital murder in the 179th State District Court.  He is accused in the killing of Samuel K. Irick, 24, of Houston, who suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and died at Ben Taub General Hospital. A photo of suspect Ferrell is attached to this news release.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant E. Cisneros, Senior Police Officer W. Ferguson and Officers M. Coleman and K. Meek reported:

A female customer was at the service window of the Chevron gas station at the above location when she was approached by an unknown black male suspect armed with a pistol.  As the suspect grabbed the female’s purse, Mr. Irick, who was standing nearby, attempted to intervene.  The suspect then shot Iric in the chest and fled on foot with the female’s purse.  The gas station employee then called 9-1-1.

Acting on a Crime Stoppers tip, investigators were led to Anthony Ferrell as the suspect in this case.  Ferrell was arrested early Sunday morning (Nov. 14) without incident and later positively identified as the shooter captured on surveillance photos of the incident.
