Two New York police officers were injured after they intercepted an armed robbery that led to an exchange of gunfire and resulted in the officers being hospitalized. The call reporting an armed robbery at a Bronx grocery store was made at around 10:30 p.m. on Monday. Sources confirm that five plainclothes officers were returning from their shift when the call came in and they went to look for the criminals instead.

The wounded officers are receiving treatment in the Bronx’s St. Barnabas Hospital as of Tuesday morning. 30-year-old Andrew Dossi, who was shot in the arm and lower back, remained in critical condition following surgery, whereas 38-year-old Aliro Pellerano, who had gunshot wounds to the chest and arm, is in stable condition. Meanwhile, New York City Mayor, Bill de Blasio, mentioned in his remarks that “this is another indicator of the dangers our officers face in the line of duty,” adding that “thank God, these officers will recover.”

Whereas on the other hand, authorities are currently pursuing all leads in order to arrest the suspects involved. According to the police, the white Camaro used in the robbery was located and found to be abandoned. Investigators claim that it was carjacked by the two suspects almost a block from the shooting. In addition to that, a $12,000 reward has been set for any information that could lead to the arrest of a bearded man pictured in a surveillance video from inside a take-out Chinese restaurant moments before the shooting.
