Detectives assigned to the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announced today that an arrest has been made in the 2009 homicide of 40-year-old Joseph Barton.

On Friday, February 6, 2009, at approximately 12:30 pm, units from the Fourth District responded to 1300 block of Fort Stevens Drive, NW for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located 40-year-old Joseph Barton of the 1300 block of Fort Stevens Drive, NW, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported Mr. Barton to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

On Monday, December 27, 2010, at approximately 8:30 am, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 36-year-old Lamar Smith of Lorton, Va., pursuant to an arrest warrant charging him with Murder One while Armed.
