Fox News in the United States has had an interesting televised interview with a British scientist by name of Piers Corbyn. According to Wikipedia, Piers Richard Corbyn (born 10 March 1947) is a meteorologist, astrophysicist, consultant, and owner of the business Weather Action which makes weather forecasts up to a year in advance, and which he also bets on.

What makes the Fox interview so interesting is that apparently the U.K. government weather forecasting office predicted this winter would be mild. Mr. Corbyn said the opposite and seems to have been "spot on" in his reading of the tea leaves. Who is this guy and what exactly is his technique of looking into the future?

According is his web site Weather Action:

WeatherAction long-range forecasts are produced using Piers Corbyn’s Solar Lunar Action Technique (which now supersedes his Solar Weather Technique) which is the most advanced and reliable long-range forecasting system in the world.

The technique uses predictable aspects of solar activity – particle and magnetic effects from the Sun – and lunar modulations as the basis for forecasting weather many months and even years in advance. The essence of the technique is explained in scientific presentations (see News Archive).

In contrast to his emphasis on the sun as a contributor to the weather we have or suffer through on Earth, the BBC reports that the sun is not influencing our weather patterns.

A new scientific study concludes that changes in the Sun’s output cannot be causing modern-day climate change. It shows that for the last 20 years, the Sun’s output has declined, yet temperatures on Earth have risen. It also shows that modern temperatures are not determined by the Sun’s effect on cosmic rays, as has been claimed. Writing in the Royal Society’s journal Proceedings A, the researchers say cosmic rays may have affected climate in the past, but not the present.

Who’s right? The proof is in the pudding as the old saying goes and at the moment, Mr. Corbyn is closer to batting a thousand than any of his mainstream counterparts. Whether it’s hot or cold – Weather is hot or cold? – has always been difficult to predict but for the moment, we all now have an alternative source of weather expertise upon which we can decide to dress lightly or put on a winter scarf to protect ourselves against this "mild winter".

Fox TV Interview: Mocked Meteorologist Gets Last Laugh
Piers Corbyn talks not just about weather predictions but global warming. He’s saying we have just reached a peak in rising temperatures and says temperatures will be dropping over the next 25 years and goes so far as to say that we will have a mini-ice age by 2035. Oddly enough, he claims temperatures drive carbon dioxide levels not the other way around. So all of our cars are not contributing to the supposed rise in CO2?

  1. The two comment_content_IDeas are not necessarily in contradiction. Global warming models actual predict the possibility of a mini-ice age for parts of the Americas and Europe. The fresh water melt from the polar cap could change the Gulf stream, which is responsible for warming up Northeastern America and much of Europe, resultin in these areas becoming cooler, with harsher winters. Just because the overall average temp for the planet increases, it doesn’t mean that there won’t be areas that are actually cooler as a result of ice melts, modified precipitation, and wind and ocean current changes that result from the warming.

  2. Climate has changed constantly without any human interference. Although reducing fossil fuel use is sensible as there are few if any alternatives, our climate is in a constant state of change. Our current climate may not be the optimum? Both Piers Corbyn and Joe Bastardi of Accuweather have better long-term success with forecasts than the various national Met offices

I love it how you guys take any info and twist it to fit your Global Warming mold. Facts are that every model touted by the Global Warming crowd has proved to be utterly useless. Now that is what I call a “FALSE GOD”. In biblical times they would have been stoned after the first model for false prophacy. There have now been 7 models, each less accurate than the last. Corbyn has nailed the forecasts of the past several years. One of you is right… I am going with Piers.

  4. The following quote from this article shows a basic failure of logic.

“Oddly enough, he claims temperatures drive carbon dioxcomment_IDe levels not the other way around. So all of our cars are not contributing to the supposed rise in CO2?”

Corbyn is saying that warmer temperatures drive carbon dioxcomment_IDe levels to rise, not the other way around. That doesn’t mean automobiles can’t also cause carbon dioxcomment_IDe to rise. In fact, both warmer temperatures and automobile use (and other man-made processes) can cause carbon dioxcomment_IDe to rise. The point is, the rise in carbon dioxcomment_IDe is not the driving force behind global warming, or global cooling for than matter. The sun has always driven global climate change, and continues to do so.
