Charges have been filed against two suspects arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 5400 Caplin about 8 a.m. on Dec. 10.

Amancio Gonzalez (H/m, DOB: 8-8-81) and Jose Luis Gonzalez (H/m, DOB: 10-21-77) are charged with capital murder in the 262nd State District Court.

The victim, Jony Josue Benitez-Lopez, 26, of Houston, suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J.C. Padilla and Senior Police Officer R.L. Bolton reported:

A citizen driving in the 5400 block of Caplin saw what appeared to be a body lying in the grass just off the roadway and called police. Responding officers found Mr. Benitez-Lopez dead from a gunshot wound.

Further investigation led police to a second crime scene located at 2200 Harwell. There, investigators found items inside a Ford Explorer belonging to Benitez-Lopez.

The investigation later determined suspect Amancio Gonzalez was seen arguing with the victim, Benitez-Lopez, at a bar in east Houston. Amancio Gonzalez was then seen leaving the bar with the victim.

Suspect Jose Gonzalez followed his brother, Amancio, to 7000 Herbert where Amancio forced Benitez-Lopez at gunpoint from his vehicle and into the vehicle belonging to the Gonzalez brothers. The brothers then drove Benitez-Lopez to the 5400 block of Caplin where Amancio Gonzalez shot and killed him.

Both were arrested on Wednesday (Jan. 5) and confessed to their roles in the killing of Mr. Benitez-Lopez.
