Houston police are investigating the death of a child found after a fire was extinguished at 8500 Broadway about 3 a.m. on Saturday (Feb. 19).

The cause of death of Jorge Gallan, 11, of the above address, is pending autopsy results by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Odom and Senior Police Officer L. Lovelace reported:

HPD homicide investigators were called to the scene of an apartment fire at the above location after a body was recovered. Houston firefighters stated a fire started on the patio of a downstairs apartment and flames quickly spread to surrounding units. The boy was found deceased in an upstairs apartment.

The investigation is continuing.
