Cousin of the wife of the impeached Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona, Christine Corona, arrived to the SC on Tuesday to testify in favour of the defence panel. Demetrio Vicente, 70-year-old, testified before the court stating that he bought about seven pieces of land from the Corona family during 1990.

He said that the family had sold him seven pieces of land adding to 1700 square meters in Marikina worth 509,000 pesos. The head of the defence panel Serafin Cuevas examined the witness thoroughly and told the court that his intention to bring Mr. Vicente was to prove to the court that the transaction was real and honest other than a fake one to misguide the court as the court has said so to their previous claims which were not supported by enough evidence.

The prosecution team raised objection to the witness saying that the property sold to the client was on the name of Mrs. Christine Corona even until now. Mr. Vicente replied saying that at the time he bought the property he did not have enough money to get it transferred on his name since the transfer deed requires another bunch of investment in terms of the documentary stamp tax and transfer tax. He further explained that he has been paying the taxes on the property since the 90s when he bought it and documents can prove that.
