Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman was verbally attacked by the opposition leader Datuk Anwar Ibrahim for quoting only selective information of what he said and expressing it in the House of Parliament on Thursday.

Several news channels quoted the incident as a “shouting match” in Dewan Rakyat today.

The incident took place when Datuk Anifah responded to one of the questions asked by Datuk Juslie Ajirol over the issue of the government supporting Palestine, and said “As long as the Barisan Nasional government is in power, we will not allow the atrocities committed by the Israelis towards the Palestinians”. He also said that Malaysia has always and continuously helped Palestine in any way they asked, with Malaysia working on lines of coming up with a comprehensive solution to the problems faced by the state.

He also added that their efforts were not like Datuk Anwar’s who is reported to have said, and he quoted, “I support all efforts to protect the security of the state of Israel …”

Upon the selective quotation of the statement of Anwar, the vice president of PKR Nurul Izzah Anwar, who is also Datuk Anwar’s daughter, demanded Anifah to take back his statement as he has “knowingly” used only a part of the statement to misguide the attendees of the session or be ready to face Parliamentary Rights and Privileges Committee.
