One of the military officials informed the media that one dead and three soldiers have been injured in a clash with the terrorist gang Abu Sayyaf in Basilan on Thursday.

The bridge commander of the 104 Infantry Colonel Ricardo Visaya had sent a team to Barangay Baiwas to cater to one of the reports that said that there are about 40 ASG present at the location. Reports also said that the terrorist were conducting a training session to make explosives under their renown leaders Khair Mundus and Furuji Indama.

At about 11 am the team dispatched to check to the news of terrorists in region encountered the gang of terrorists and the battle of fire started which resulted in one soldiers being killed. The encounter carried on for about two hours. On the other hand, the terrorists successfully fled the location leaving about 30 explosive items installed in the village.

As soon as the terrorists fled the area, another team of army men was dispatched to follow them who had an encounter with the terrorists once again at about 5 pm, which lasted another 45 minutes.

The identity of the deceased solider has yet not been disclosed without the consent of family as they are not informed until now. Three more are admitted in the hospital and have experienced severe injuries.
