The chairman of Penang MIC Datuk P.K. Subbaiyah expired at his residence in Taman Meranti on Wednesday morning at the age of 63.

One of the family members mentioned that Subbaiyah passed away peacefully in his sleep. The family found out about his death when his wife, Valny, tried to wake him up at about 4 am and found him dead. The announcement of the death of Subbaiyah was made by the Chief of State MIC Youth J. Dhina who got the news at 5 30 am giving him the bad news. It is believed that Subbaiyah had a cardiac arrest while sleeping.

Subbaiyah was appointed as the chairperson of Penang MIC in April 2009 and became the senator in April of the last year. He had served as the member of the state executive council and became the Prai assemblyman for two terms. He has two children, Ganesh and Gowri. Family members announced that the funeral service of the deceased will be carried out on Friday at his residence.

The state deputy chairman of MIC, L Krishna, said that the death of Subbaiyah was a great loss to the Indian community as well as to the party. He added, “He was a friendly and good leader”.
