The PKR’s Batu MP Tian Chua announced this Thursday his withdrawal from the contest for the PKR’s deputy president postition. Tian Chua will only contest for the post of vice president. Tian Chua said he decided to opt out from the no.2 race after talking with other people who were deputy president candidates, whom he also felt were more fit to look into the problems being faced by the party.

“The reason I decided to contest for deputy president then was because I believed I could play a role in addressing the problems faced by various segments of the party, but now I think it is not necessary to think I’m the only one. I believe the other candidates also understand my vision,” he expressed at the press conference in Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur. He, however, said he would not be formally joining any grouping for this PKR elections, despite being flanked by another deputy president hopeful Saifuddin Nasution,  vice president contestants Nurul Izzah Anwar, Fuziah Salleh and Rafizi Ramli.

“I do not want to  practise factional politics, like team A is fighting team B,” he announced. Saifuddin, Nurul and Rafizi have formed an alliance called the “Moving Forward Together” for theup-coming party elections. There are four vice presidents slots up for grabs, and today’s press conference saw four contestants coming together. Commenting on Saifuddin, Tian Chua said the party secretary general was a “capable leader”, whom he has worked closely with in the past.
