This year’s School Placement Exercise for Returning Singaporeans (SPERS) is open for registration from Monday (July 14), the Ministry of Education (MOE) said in a statement.

SPERS is for Singaporean children who are returning from overseas and wish to join the secondary schools, junior colleges or Millennia Institute (MI) at the beginning of academic year 2015. They will need to take one set of centralised tests on Oct 1 for admission to secondary schools, or on Nov 20 for admission to pre-university institutions. Applicants will receive their school placement results in December, said the MOE.

A Supplementary Placement Exercise will also be held in late December 2014 for those who are unable to return in time to take the secondary school admission test in October. Applicants will receive their school placement results in early February 2015 for school admissions in the same month. Registration for the Supplementary Placement Exercise will open in October, MOE added. Children of returning Singaporeans seeking admission to primary schools may approach MOE at any time, the ministry informed. The child will be offered a place in a primary school with vacancies near his home at a level appropriate for the child’s age cohort, although the primary school may conduct assessment tests after admission to ascertain the child’s current attainment level and provide the appropriate assistance to help the child settle into the school, MOE further added.
