The Umno Youth said this Tuesday that the action taken by certain quarters in boycotting products from Israel are irrational. Its chief, Khairy Jamaluddin, said that it was tough to determine if a certain product was in fact from Israel.

He added that what worries him was that the act of boycotting might only hurt Malaysians in return. “For instance, when some people say Nestlé is an Israeli product, it is actually manufactured by its factory in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan. “If we boycott, people there may end up losing their jobs. That is why we must think first before boycotting,” Khairy, who is also Youth and Sports Minister, told reporters after chairing an Umno Youth exco meeting at Menara Umno here today. “It is not Israelis who will feel the impact of this boycott. It is our workers that will pay the price. Unless a company is clearly supporting Israel,” the Rembau parliamentarian said.

Also at the press conference today, Khairy said Umno Youth would be involved in the Humanitarian Mission to Gaza, Palestine. The mission, which is being organised by Umno’s Welfare Bureau and non-governmental organisation (NGO) Aman Malaysia, is expected to leave for the troubled region, plagued by atrocities committed by the Israeli regime, any time soon. “The mission will bring aid, such as medical supplies, to Gaza as a sign of support to the Palestinians who are becoming victims of Israeli attacks,” Khairy said, adding that further information on the mission would be provided by Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, who has been appointed as the mission’s coordinator according to Rakyat Post.
