The haze-induced low visibility of less than five kilometres over the waters of the northern part of the Melaka Strait is expected to persist until tomorrow, according to the Meteorological Department. This condition is dangerous for ships without navigational equipment, it further added in a statement.

The department has also warned of strong winds and rough seas brought on by the Typhoon Matmo that has been detected about 1,960 kilometres north-east of Kudat in Sabah at 5 am this Wednesday, the 23rd of July. The typhoon is informed to be at 24.2 degrees North Latitude and 120.3 degrees East Longitude and moving north-west at 25 km per hour, the Meteorological Department further informed.

The department also said that south-westerly winds with a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour and waves as high as 3.5 metres in the waters off Perlis, Kedah and Kudat (Sabah) as well as Palawan, Reef North, Condore and Layang-Layang are expected to prevail until Thursday. The statement cleared that these conditions are dangerous for small boats as well as sea sports and recreation according to MSN Messenger.
