The Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has decided to cancel the PM’s Hari Raya Open House this year in mourning of the victims of the Malaysian Airlines (MAS) flight MH17. It was scheduled to be held on the first day of Hari Raya Adilfitri at his residence, Seri Perdana, in Putrajaya.

The Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said the decision was made during the Cabinet meeting today. “Mesyuarat Kabinet tadi putuskan BATAL Rumah Terbuka PM di Seri Perdana pada Hari Raya pertama sebagai tanda berkabung tragedi #MH17. (The Cabinet meeting just now decided to cancel the prime minister’s open house at Seri Perdana on the first day of Hari Raya as a sign of mourning for the MH17 tragedy.),” Masidi posted on Twitter today. This is the first time a PM’s Hari Raya open house had been called off. Meanwhile, the Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had also announced in a statement that his open house that was scheduled to take place at the Sri Pekembar complex in Pagoh, Johor would be postponed to a later date in mourning of the MH17 victims.

All major shopping malls such as Bandar Utama, Pavilion KL, Isetan KLCC, Sunway Pyramid and IOI Mall have said there were no plans for fireworks, some had initiatives specifically planned for MH17. “Our mall will not be having any fireworks for Hari Raya. We usually hold fireworks only during the New Year. “We have other initiatives for Raya and MH17,” said a spokesperson for Sunway Pyramid according to Rakyat Post.
