A security guard this Thursday shot dead a man who attempted to rob a bank in Jalan Sungai Dua in George Town. The Penang deputy police chief Datuk A. Thaiveegan believed that the man was in his 30’s and is from the same gang who had escaped with RM60,000 from the same bank on the 29th of May. He further added that the man entered this bank alone at about 11.17 am and poured petrol on the front counter of the bank before announcing that he planned to rob the bank.

“However, before the man could do anything, the security guard stationed behind the counter fired two shots at the man’s body. A parang was found tied to the man’s waist. He was also wearing a fake moustache,” Thaiveegan informed reporters present at the site of the incident. He further added that the police also found a Proton Saga that is believed to be used by the man shot dead. He parked the car by the roadside near the bank. “The police have not ruled out the possibility that the man had friends who were waiting outside and are studying footage of CCTV recording,” Thaiveegan added.

The police officer praised the 29-year-old security guard of the bank for his quick and spontaneous reaction which did not compromise the safety of six to seven customers who were present inside the bank at that time.
