PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is not secretly calling the shots behind the Selangor government, insisted Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali while talking to a Malay paper. He further added that decisiona made by PKR are based on the wisdom of executive councillors.

“I believe that Anwar wants me to be an effective leader,” Azmin told Sinar Harian, adding that he was free to make independent decisions. I have spent 30 years with Anwar. The experience I have gained during that time has taught me how to be a leader, someone who is decisive and effective. I believe that Anwar wants me to adopt the same principles in governing Selangor,” the Malaysian insider quoted him saying to the paper. Azmin further added that a lot of big decisions were independent of party interference. “I made these decision based on facts and needs, not because I had been ordered to,” he told Sinar Harian.

This Tuesday, Anwar had said that unity in PKR was evident during the nomination of candidates for the Selangor menteri besar post. “We did not agree with certain quarters such as the Selangor royalty who ignored the wishes of the rakyat. Our stance has not changed. In the end, we decided to support Azmin and since he took over, the performance of the state administration has been quite admirable.”
