The Sabah police may have arrested the leading member of cross-border kidnapping gang who are responsible for a number of cross-border kidnappings done for ransom, in Sabah. The Sabah police commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman informed that they are about “95 per cent certain” that they have detained Nikson Muktadir, a leading member of the Muktadir brothers gang, The Star Online reported today.

“We are still trying to confirm his real identity but we are 95 per cent certain that it’s him,” he was quoted as saying by the news portal. “We arrested a man who was among eight adults and children in a boat off Pulau Bohayan, Semporna at about 5.30pm on Nov 30. We are still trying to confirm his real identity but we are 95% certain that it’s him,” The police commissioner further elaborated to the media after attending the passing out parade for constables at the Sabah police headquarters in Kota Kinabalu.

“These groups are mobile and have been moving at ease between Sabah and southern Philippines. There is no doubt about the effectiveness about the curfew,” Jalaluddin said while explaining that the east coast of Sabah was under control.
