Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon announced during the opening of the legal year, 2015, the appointment of eleven international judges who are to work alongside the local judges for the proper functioning of the SICC.

According to Channel News Asia, the international judges include the Honourable Sir Vivian Ramsey from the United Kingdom, a former judge of the High Court of England and Wales; the Honourable Ms Carolyn Berger, former Justice of the Supreme Court of Delaware, United States; Japan’s Professor Yasuhei Taniguchi, former Chairman and Member of the Appellate Body of the World Trade Organization; and the Honourable Justice Dominique T Hascher, Judge of the Supreme Judicial Court of France.

The Chief Justice further added that trade flows in and out of Asia is increasing and thus the growth of commercial activity will also to lead to an increase in commercial disputes. He said that this increase in disputes would give rise to the need of an institution which can resolve these disputes efficiently while laying the groundwork for a freestanding body of supporting commercial law, he said according to the news portal.
