The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah made a royal address to the public of Malaysia at the opening of the third session of the 13th parliament sitting in Kuala Lumpur this Monday.

‘We would like to reiterate the position of Islam as the religion of the federation which must be upheld and not to be questioned, while other religions may be practised freely.’ ‘Differences of opinion on religious issues should be referred to the authorities and not polemicised,’ further quoted Malaysian Insider. He made it clear that the position of Islam as the federal religion should not be questioned.                                                                             

‘All parties should understand that the separation of powers between the executive, the legislative and the judiciary practised in the country is in accordance with existing laws. There is nowhere a better place than this blessed land of ours. Thus, respect and accept one another for the sake of peace and stability,’ quoted the online newspaper. The King also said that Malaysia thrived on peace and harmony among its citizens who belonged to different races, religions and cultures. He expressed his unhappiness related to isolated parties that did not subscribe to such values.  Bernama further added that the King said that he welcomed the continuous efforts to strengthen security measures and ensure public order particularly to tackle the threat of terrorists in Sabah and curb the spread of extremist ideology among the people.
