Occupy Melbourne activists have protested in a peaceful manner through the city streets under the keen observation of Australian police.
Over 1,000 protesters marched from the State Library to Treasury Gardens carrying several different banners in order to voice their views against corporate gluttony.
Protesters marched over 1 kilometre singing their slogan “we are the 99 per cent” while over 100 police officers were reporting at the site.
“It was a peaceful march, lots of people, lots of different groups, a lot of children, and families; it was a beautiful sunny day, it went really well,” Media spokeswoman Tal Slome said.
Occupy Melbourne protesters are at present discussing whether to set up camp in the CBD.
“We’re going to figure out a way around this because this movement needs to find its place on the street,” one protester said.”It can’t just be in the back doors. It has to be on the street, in public, people need to be able to come together.”
However, police has informed the group their camps will be taken to pieces and fines issued if they decide to settle in Treasury Gardens tonight.
Last week, violent clashes were reported when police tried to take out the activists from City Square.
