The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra announces that none of the Australian prisoners in Kerobokan jail were the cause of violence and all remain safe.

The Kerobokan jail in Bali faced a fierce lockdown when inmates ganged up and took over the jail with violence. Officers locked down the jail immediately and teams were called in for help. Unknown members of the jail have been known to provoke the violence act. Riot broke out when one of the inmates was stabbed and others lost control. The angry and notorious inmates took over the entire jail including offices near the main gate of the jail which was timely sealed.

A gang of hundred military and police members marched in around dawn time to put an end to the riot and take the situation under control.

Only a little while later, authorities announced that the situation was “under control” of the team and investigations were going on.

No severe injuries have been reported. However, according to news correspondents covering the event, a few injured inmates were sent to hospital for first aid.

The Deputy Police chief of Bali spoke to the media once the situation was resolved. He said that the police was “forced to open fire. Three people were injured in the legs and taken to hospital”. Injuries are reported to have occurred from rubber bullets.

DFAT also announced that there were some foreign inmates in the prison as well who remain untouched. These include 12 Australian criminals belonging to Bali drug mafia.
