ISP Dodo takes responsibility for the outage that caused the networks of Telstra and iiNet to shut down for about an hour yesterday evening, affecting a minimum of 3 million consumers.

Managing Director of Dodo made the announcement this morning saying, “To be perfectly frank the extent of what happened was more than anybody could’ve thought. What it looks like has happened … is a very minor hardware failure on one of the routers that has caused some big issues between ourselves and Telstra and had a flow on effect to others which it absolutely shouldn’t have.”

Larry Kastelman, MD Dodo further told the press that the team was still investigating the exact reason behind the issue. Telstra said that the outage was caused due to some of their overseas routers; therefore, the issue is being investigated as it appears that the outage was a result of a combination of the two problems at a time.

The incident was reported around 1:55pm yesterday when fixed landline broadband, Next G mobile services, and BigPond mail services were hampered all over Australia.

Affected people started posting their concerns online a little before 2pm, seeking other people’s advice. Main areas hit include Sydney, Gold Coast, Canberra, Brisbane, and Adelaide.

Commonwealth Bank and Optus are also reported to be effected by the outage.
