Treasurer Wayne Swan has once again recorded his protest for the unconcerned billionaires of the society. He pinpointed at the mining magnate of Queensland, Clive Palme, and said that he is amused at his “wildly irresponsible” attitude towards the public.

Swan has put his soul and blood towards working for the middle class of Australia to protect them from the economic explosion of Asia and expressed disbelief over the selfishness of the rich of his country and their ulterior motives other than showing concern about the public of Australia. He also said that the “proud egalitarian tradition” of Australia appears to be in danger today.

Speaking to the National Press Club in Canberra he said that achieving policy reforms such as the rent tax on mineral resources is a lot more difficult today as compared to the time two decades ago and that is all because of selfish interests of some of the wealthy individuals of the society.

He said, “What is different between what occurred 25 years ago (when the petroleum resources tax was adopted) … is there is a small group of vested interests with enormous wealth and power who are prepared not to sit down and discuss the national interest. But we resolved it with responsible mining companies”.

He also said that it hit him hard to hear the statement of Clive Palmer that his only responsibility is towards his workers and the stakeholders, bearing no responsibility to the public.
