A woman won the case in High Court receiving $580,000 to have slipped on the greasy chip lying on the floor of Woolworths in New South Wales on Wednesday.

As a result of the chip slip, Kathryn Strong, who walks with the help of crutches, fell on the floor and got injured really badly in September 2004. The lady had filed a case against Woolworths for not keeping their floors clear and that it was negligence on their part because of which she fell and experienced severe spinal injury which cost her a fortune. She said that the area where she slipped and fell because of the chip was inspected for cleaning almost four hours before.

According to her claim, she filed for an expense of $580,299 to be compensated by the company for the loss she had to bear due to their incompetency.

The case was initially filed in the New South Wales court, where the Woolworths filed an appeal disagreeing with the claim. They court took its time but ruled out that the case was eligible and that Ms. Strong could not be compensated. Thereafter, Ms. Strong took the case to the High Court appealing for justice.

On Wednesday, four of the judges in the panel agreed that if the mall had been careful in cleaning and the floor was swiped regularly after every 15 minutes, the injury would not have happened and therefore it is negligence on part of Woolworths who must compensate the woman for the financial expense she had to bear as result of the chip slip.
